Meet our 2012 E-Corps Crews! We have 7 crews this year, more than in previous years so check out the crew breakdown.
Trails Across Texas Crew (TAT) – Trails Across Texas is our trail crew that works in conjunction with Texas Parks and Wildlife in Texas State Parks. The crew consists of 2 crew leaders who serve 1700 hour AmeriCorps terms and will oversee 2 consecutive crews of 8 members who serve 900 hour AmeriCorps terms. Traveling to places such as Caprock Canyons and Huntsville, the crew spikes (camps) regularly at their project sites, working 11 days on with 5 days off.
Bastrop State Park Restoration Crew – As a result of the Central Texas Wildfires that broke out in September of 2011, one of the most popular and historic Texas Parks sustained severe damage. Bastrop State Park is hosting a residential crew for a year, focused on felling hazard pine trees, rebuilding historic structures, generating erosion control, and improving the trail system. The crew consists of 2 crew leaders who serve 1700 hour AmeriCorps terms and will oversee 2 consecutive crews of 6 members who serve 900 hour AmeriCorps terms.
E-Corps Crews – We have 3 E-Corps Crews that work on public land throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas. Their breadth of work includes habitat restoration, invasive species removal, trail work, and public land improvement with a variety of agency partners ranging from the Bureau of Reclamation to the National Park Service’s Exotic Plant Management Team. The crews also work around Austin on projects with Travis County Parks and on Water Quality Protection Easements. Each crew has 2 crew leaders and 6 members who serve 1700 hour AmeriCorps terms together.
Service Learning Academy E-Corps Crews (SLA)- Led by 2 AmeriCorps crew leaders each, the SLA crews are made up of members from our American YouthWorks high school. The program focuses on job training and in-the-field education, successfully helping these young adults earn their high school education while simultaneously preparing for the workforce. Serving half the week on conservation projects around Austin and half the week in the classroom, the program provides essential experience for these crew members.
